Marefat High School (2019-2020) – Leadership, Resilience, and Advocacy

Marefat High School wasn’t just where I studied—it was where I learned to lead, to fight for my beliefs, and to create real change. As one of the top schools in Afghanistan, Marefat was more than an institution; it was a movement—a place where education, democracy, and critical thinking thrived despite the challenges surrounding us.

During my time at Marefat, I had the honor of serving as the President of the Student Council (2019-2020). This wasn’t just a title—it was a responsibility. I took on the role during one of Afghanistan’s most difficult times, with rising security threats, restrictions on education, and a fragile political landscape. Yet, within those school walls, we built something powerful.

We created a student-led environment where young people had a voice—where they weren’t just told what to learn, but were given the platform to shape their own education. Through leadership, advocacy, and activism, we launched educational programs, democratic school elections, and youth initiatives that empowered students far beyond the classroom.

Why Marefat Mattered?

Marefat wasn’t just about education—it was about empowerment, activism, and the belief that young people could change their own futures.

It was at Marefat that I learned that real leadership isn’t about power—it’s about responsibility. It’s about standing up, even when you’re afraid. It’s about believing in the people around you, even when the world tells you they don’t matter.

Marefat shaped me into the leader I am today. And no matter how far I go, I will always carry its lessons with me

Educational Event Collaboration

Partnered with a nonprofit to host an educational event, providing students with a valuable platform to showcase their skills, engage in interactive learning experiences, and gain recognition for their academic progress.

The event featured a range of activities, including presentations, competitions, and skill-building workshops, designed to inspire creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration. Students had the opportunity to demonstrate their talents in various subjects, from STEM and literature to arts and leadership.

Beyond academic achievement, the initiative aimed to boost students’ confidence, encourage lifelong learning, and connect them with mentors and professionals who could support their future aspirations. By fostering a culture of education and innovation, the partnership helped create opportunities for young learners to thrive and reach their full potential.

Reza Hussaini was actively involved in many volunteer activities with various NGOs in Afghanistan prior to 2018 and 2019. He dedicated a significant amount of his time and efforts towards supporting these organizations in their charitable work. His volunteer activities with these NGOs allowed him to gain valuable experience and develop a strong sense of community involvement.
